I’m bringing my blog back to life …

After an extended absence from writing my own blog, I have decided to bring it back to life! It is just one part of a whole revamp of my website and online presence.

The most notable change to my site and my emerging world is my little online shop called compendiumshop.ca, which will house all the new things coming out of my studio … and there will be LOTS of new things emerging in the coming months!! I am working on a whole new selection of one-of-a-kind, hand-painted pieces that will represent three areas that are very important to me ~ salvaging, function and beauty. So some of the future is completely new for me, and I am pretty excited.

What has emerged from our pandemic times for me is a need to change what I am doing, and how I am putting it into the world. Three shops that carried my work pre-pandemic, have either closed completely or downsized their inventory all around. This has left the Salish Sea Market, in Bowser, BC, as my single outlet for furniture pieces. Ahhh yes, a shift is in the works. Reinventing myself and my work, and although it’s taken me months to get to this point, I now feel much more prepared to move forward. I am so very thankful to everything and everyone who have helped me get to this point.

I have re-energized much of the website, adding, removing and updating throughout. I am most intrigued about my little shop though … trying to create what I would like a bricks-and-mortar store to feel like, but here, online. It will definitely be a work-in-progress, and will be updated with new pieces regularly. (Hopefully weekly!)

My internal wisdom continues to tell me to move slowly and intentionally through these times. No Rush Required. So far, this wisdom is working perfectly for me.

In deciding to reactivate my blog, I want to share a variety of aspects of my world, once a week, on Sundays. It’s my way of sitting with you and having a little visit. So, if you aren’t signed up to receive this in your email inbox, I hope you will join me on this curious adventure called LIFE … with all it’s peaks and valleys, joys and wonder!

I promise to do my best to inspire and inform.

My desire is to create a community here! I hope you will join me.

When Two Worlds Come Together

Recently, I have been combining two of my favourite things: lettering and mandalas. The results have been surprising and very well received. It will be interesting to see what words decide to come to the forefront.

It’s been awhile … I’ve been busy with furniture

All the great plans of posting regularly seem to have fallen by the wayside. Intentions are great, but then the work itself has to be done, which is what I have been doing. Slide on over to my Refined Furniture page to see some of the latest projects and read the stories.

Part of the difficulty, in these modern times, is that there are too many places to “keep up-to-date”. I post pretty regularly to Facebook, at least with the new pieces. Turns out this is a good venue for me. It puts my work in front of more people.

I resisted Facebook for many, many, many years. Now I see there is a place for it in promoting the work I want to do more of in the future.

My goal in the next year is to build a solid Custom Furniture Refining component to my work world. Maybe that will even lead to me expanding into a larger space … who knows. Is it a dream or a future vision? Guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Until then, I will try to get back to posting a little more frequently, because it does give me the chance to exercise my love of writing!!

A whole new start … for spring!

Here it is … the Opening page of my whole new website!

Started from scratch. Incredible learning curve … but I feel really good about it. My aim was to create something that had a calm feeling, no drop-down menus, was easy to browse through the whole thing in a sitting … and … had more stories.

I realize there are a lot more stories to tell. Each time I started with one, another story would pop into my head. Snippets of what make up the artistic life that I live. Like a patchwork quilt or a mosaic … bits and pieces that create a whole picture.

That’s the interesting thing about starting to tell a story, you end up connecting to more stories that you never imagined or remembered. At least I know that’s what happens for me.

The other great thing about starting something from scratch is that you get to select what you will use. It’s not a matter of just moving things over from the old site to the new one, everything has to be considered.

This new site is different in so many ways from my previous site. I loved my old one, until I realized that we had outgrown one another. I had changed and no matter what I did with the old one, it would never be able to reflect those changes. I had to start from scratch.

I’ve actually found the “starting from scratch” mantra to be a very powerful one in the last few months. It allows me to rethink things. I did the same thing when I purchased a new computer in December. Instead of moving things over from the old computer to the new one, I treated the new machine as if it was my very first computer. WOW … does that ever make a difference to everything. I set up better filing systems. I explored the operating system more extensively, and I switched over to some new programs. In fact, I have been on an amazing learning curve for the past few months with software … I think I have learned 6 or 7 new programs. My brain feels bigger!

My personal challenge for the year is to embrace technology. To learn more about the ways that I can use it to connect and create. So far, so good!

The NEW Mandala Meditation Decks have arrived!!!

Yes, the NEW Mandala Decks are finally here … I am so pleased with them! They are a bit larger than the previous ones and feel nice in your hand. The card stock is heavier too.

I have replaced the original two decks with this one. It has 36 cards and represents the original deck, some of the second deck and a whole bunch of new mandalas.

I took my inspiration from the 30 Days of Calm colouring pack that I designed, so I took some of those and coloured them!

How do I use these cards … well, I randomly choose three cards each morning to set the tone and ground the day. So far, the cards I have chosen or the cards that have chosen me, have been PERFECT.

If you are on Vancouver Island, they are available at Lobelia’s Lair and Departure Bay Aromatherapy, in Nanaimo, and at the Salish Sea Market, in Bowser.
