Bento Box Letters are simple in design,
so that you can enjoy full freedom
to embellish in your own style!

I find letter writing so enjoyable, I wanted to find a way to share it with others.
Welcome the Bento Box Letters.

So, here is how the Bento Box Letters got started …

My friend Simone and I have been trading letters, up and down the island for the past few years. It seems with each and every letter we were working our way to send something more and more creative. It’s been an amazing creative journey, which fuelled me to design the Bento Box Letter.

Think back, way back to when you could buy a really thin Air Mail Letter that was both the letter and the envelope, it folded neatly together, you wrote the address, through on a stamp, and away it went. I love the idea of these, they are both exotic and practical.

So, in many, many, many practice attempts, I started to try and design a one piece letter/envelope that left lots and lots of room for the writer’s mood and creativity. Because I divided it up into boxes, and you are encouraged to put whatever you want in them, it reminded me of bento boxes you get a Japanese restaurants.

Since their inception from heavy weight, white stock, which was quite nice … they have morphed to be on heavy card stock that is very durable, but still goes through the post office for a single stamp. (Unless you add stuff inside … then you will have to check to make sure!)

There a NO LIMITS to what you can create with a Bento Box Letter. No limits at all, well, except the size of the paper I suppose. They can be playful or elegant, packed full and colourful, with bits and pieces pasted in, or simple drawings in each of the spaces. The choice is totally up to the mood of the writer and the intent for the reader.

There is no right or wrong, and from what I can tell, each one of them is just a pure delight to recieve!

Letter writing is certainly a unique way to keep in touch in these fast-moving, digital times, but I have to say it is soothing, calming and an all-around delight-filled experience.

And, your recipients don’t have to be that far away … Simone and I only live a little over an hour away from one another, but writing remains our most cherished way to keep in touch.
