Compendium Issue 7

Issue #7 Nourish your soul first … the rest will come easily.

Trying to write during the early part of the pandemic … thinking I could, finding out I couldn’t. The garden as a miracle place of healing and wisdom. “Vestiges” … a word I had never used before, becomes a line of new pencil holders. The wild and crazy story of 18 hours in Ireland. There is “the stuff in my head” … which is always a quirky collection of practical stuff.

For a long time I thought I could, should be able to write compendium during a pandemic. I mean, what else was there to do. Ahhh ... there was worry and being frozen in time. Some have referred to it as the endless month of March. It was quickly obvious that I didn't know what to write about. For sure compendium wasn't about the pandemic, it couldn't be, because we were all in the middle of it. So, I left it alone, to come back when it was ready ... thank goodness it did.

I've really enjoyed putting this issue together, and like other issues, it took me to places I didn't expect. It calmed me down and focussed me on things right in front of me. It awakened my desire to connect with the people who choose to read it. Yes, I know some people have been waiting and asking ... but ever so patient with the process. They wouldn't have wanted me to produce an issue that was forced because of an arbitrary timeline. I am thankful for that kind of support.

I basked in a few rare moments caught in images. I share my latest wine find ... sorry to anyone who doesn't live on Vancouver Island, I don't think you can buy it anywhere else. There is a series of connections discovered about my Grandfather Appleton, who I have written about in Issues 2 and 3, I am delighted to introduce the world to my partner Mary Ann Moore's fabulous writing guide, Writing to Map Your Spiritual Journey", which is available to download from  the iajw.org ... and I get to share the most amazing gift received: home made inks and antique nibs presented in a beautiful custom fitted box.
